Ohio-user, you posted that a cd would not do for weekly database update which I agree. You also stated to try a McDonald or Starbuck if doesn't work there then the problem might be my pc. Well I did not take my pc to the library because it is a desktop and I don't own a laptop. The pc at the library is a desktop with a brand name of HP. My desktop at home is a Dell. So the library and I both have computer that are bad and we both should purchase a new one. I tried three different HP desktops in the library with the same result of the software timing out. My question to you would be what is my next move sell the unit and buy a Radio Shack unit or spent the extra money and increase my data plan on my cell phone cause that is what I am now using. I believe Uniden should have me return the unit at no cost to me and fix it. That would be what most companies would do. The weekly update I can get from RR as I have downloaded files from them before with no problems but they do not have the files for the firmware updates for the HP (they are proprietary to Uniden). All I want is for my unit to be updated with the new firmware.

Don't understand the cell phone , unless you are using it as tethering.

Do you mean to tell me that you downloaded Sentinel to a libraries' PC's and then tried to update your HP-1? My local libraries will not let me install any software. Maybe you were running it from a USB stick - my local ones have no accessible USB ports.

You can not update the database directly from RR. You could manually create a favorites list using RR data.

I think you are misinformed on what / how you are doing. I know others have had issues with Hughes and sorry, but I do not know how they solved it.

There have only been 3 or 4 updates since they came out and I've never had an issue. You could probably run with the version you have and never have a problem, though it's nice to have the latest.

You do need to connect to Uniden though to update it's database which is updated weekly, though how often something changes that is pertinent to you I do not know.

= FWIW - there is a Yahoo group, a RR Uniden group and this. I know someone resolved this -

Note you could also be being affected by Hughes.net's Fair Access Policy, in which case attempting the update during their "Download Zone" times might help.

The timeout is occurring when Sentinel is trying to d/l the update files from our server, not when trying to write to the HP-1. It is a configuration problem with Hughes.net that results in very slow ftp access. The only tip I've found for improving this is to disable turbo in the Hughes.net configuration.

This is not limited to our software, it is a global issue when using Hughes.net and trying to do ftp transfers.

I understand about the time delay that we have with hughes.net but what gets me is that I did not have a problem when I was programming my Uniden BC 245XLT trunk tracking scanner. I do not believe that it is hughes.net problem but more of it being Uniden's problem. My next step it to take it to the library and try updating it there but if that doesn't work it is going up for sale on eBay. By the way, I am a full time RVer and that is why I purchased the HP so all I had to do is enter the zip code of the area that I am parked at for the night.

Are you on hughes net? It may have a different name on other providers.

I have not verified this but it solved time out issues we had in our ARC software products when importing from the radioref. server :
contact Hughes Net and ask them to disable the 'turbo page' option on your connection.

Just sent an HP-1 to my brother in Michigan, he is having SAME problem (he is on Hughes Net satellite broadband service) and he CANNOT update his database or firmware because of time out issues! Hope someone can help us out on this!

yea wish there was a fix for us Hughesnet users because I have been unable to get a update for over a month now.
I even try several different times of the day clicking on download update, getting the error box over and over easily 50 - 60 times in a row.
The first month I could get a update however it would take sometimes 5 or 10 tries, but I would eventually get it.
